Scarlet Jaxen, RSW

My approach

I blend ancient wisdom with modern science to facilitate healing & transformation. I identify as a witch & as such prioritize more intuitive ways of being, knowing, & doing that promote relationality, reciprocity, & generativity. I am also a social worker & have been providing clinical social work services since 2006. I am deeply invested in social justice, not as an ideal, but as a personal & collective process we can explore to reimagine & redistribute power more equitably. I meet clients at the intersection of change, where the visceral & emotional experience of reality can be explored creatively to inspire healing & growth. I listen deeply to explore the subtle & nuanced experiences of distress & fulfillment, drawing out the story of natural resistance that runs parallel to every story of oppression so we can redefine the past & create a future of genuine satisfaction & fuller self expression. I am optimistic that change is inevitable & therefore our experience of reality can be completely shifted. I trust that who we are, what we do, & how we engage, can be adapted according to values that we personally define & consistently choose. I approach healing with great care & consideration, meeting the moment with presence to hold whatever emerges, & then facilitating the process of change at a pace which is directed by the client. I lean on internal family systems theory, response based practice, psychosocial developmental theory, harm reduction, narrative therapy, attachment theory, somatic experiencing, & imagination-focused therapy. I provide support to people who require stabilization due to a crisis, conflict or problem resolution, navigation of change or major life transitions, healing from trauma, or growth related to safety, belonging, intimacy, & autonomy.

My Story

I was born on the unceded territory of the Siksika, Piikani, Amskaapipikani, and Kainai First Nations, the Chiniki, Bearspaw, & Goodstoney First Nations & the Tsuutina First Nation. In 2008 I moved to the unceded territory of the Songhees, Esquimalt, W̱SÁNEĆ & lək̓ʷəŋən speaking people where I currently call home. I grew up in the context of domestic violence & experienced long-term sexualized violence throughout my childhood. To survive these circumstances I developed heightened senses to anticipate the subtler signals of a threat & adapt accordingly to diffuse, escape, or fight my way through danger. I was taught to reject my instincts & intuition & accept the logical perspective of adults who denied the existence of harm. Since 2004 I have been immersed in healing & personal development & know personally the gifts of freedom, intimacy, & belonging that can occur from participating in therapy & non colonial methods of healing including witchcraft, earth-based medicine, creative movement & art. I am particularly obsessed with leadership as an internal role that all of us can develop & as a collaborative experience that can be achieved when we listen to the moment & respond according to the need & whether our talent is called for. I am fascinated by the potential future of healing as research catches up with ancient traditions & reality becomes viewed as less absolute & more relationally constructed.
